Today, the POTUS announced his new auto emissions standards/plan. I just wanted to take a second & point out how meaningless this is.
The government will now start forcing automakers to AVERAGE a 35.5 mpg in production. This means for every 21 mpg auto they create, they must also make a 50 mpg auto or for every one 5 mpg auto they also create three 45 mpg autos. This will actually create a net INCREASE in CO2 emissions! Here is how: Increase in Production + Increase in Autos on Road = Increased CO2! Like most things the government involves themselves with on the micromanagement level, it will only get worse!
Using MicroEcon to explain MacroEcon: Think about it! Instead of producing the desired vehicle only, the auto maker creates 2 vehicles (the 11 mpg + the 60 mpg). This increase in production produces more CO2. The gas guzzler will be more expensive due to the cost of producing both vehicles. The savings will be made on the dinky fuel efficient car that no one wants. That car will be purchased by some big city dweller who used to take the public transit. This is another net increase of emissions because you have more people purchasing cars who couldn’t afford them or saw them as a pain due to the size and mpg. Now you have 2 cars on the road vs the 1 gas guzzler.
So yea, your “average” might be 35.5 but the net output of carbon is MORE!
Now, I don’t really give a rip about CO2 emissions. I don’t believe in global warming caused by people. Those of you who do need to do a little more research [70% of CO2 comes from Ocean, 4% from Humans, 17% from Animals - Also, over the last 10 years, the temp has gotten COLDER not warmer & it happens to coincide with the SUN's decrease in violent flare activity... you know that big ball of fire comes up in the morning & we got hotter and goes down at night & we get cooler).
This just proves my theory: They [the government and most liberals] also don’t give a rip about CO2 emissions. They desire increased government control over companies, the market, and YOU!
Am I for a cleaner Earth? Using less foreign oil? Recycling? Reusing? Clean water, Clean Air? Retaining the natural beauty of the Earth? YES!
Am I for the GOVERNMENT FORCING policies upon us and losing my freedom? NO!
If they were REALLY for decreasing CO2 emissions & clean energy, they would go Nuclear Power like the rest of the world.
